If you use SharePoint Alerts, you need to know this.

Microsoft is retiring them in July 2026.

That means if your team relies on “Alert Me” to get notified when something changes in a SharePoint list or library, those notifications will simply stop working.

The good news is the replacement is actually better.

It’s called Rules, and it’s built directly into Microsoft Lists and SharePoint.
No Power Automate. No flows. No IT help needed.
You set it up in a few clicks.

Open your list, select Integrate, then Rules, then Create a rule.
Choose your trigger. A date approaches. An item is modified. A column value changes.
Pick who gets notified. Done.

It takes about two minutes and it works straight away.

I use this with clients to flag upcoming contract renewals, overdue tasks, and payment dates. The right person gets an email at the right time without anyone having to remember to send it.

If your team is currently using Alert Me on any SharePoint list or library, now is the time to swap it out before July 2026.

Happy to do a quick check across your Microsoft 365 environment if you want to make sure nothing falls through the gaps.
